🎉 October Meetup Recap
The October meetup was a huge success! We had 30 attendees — exactly the number of chairs we set up! This month marked our first event in the new space at the Jessye Norman School for the Arts, and it couldn’t have gone better. The staff has been incredibly supportive, and the venue is a perfect fit for our growing community.
We also expanded our format this month:
🎲 Board Games & Puzzles: Thanks to David Mackey for bringing a fun collection that got everyone collaborating and laughing together.
💻 Open Source Launch: We kicked off our first community open source project — the “Mapping Project.”
The goal: use technology to solve real-world challenges in downtown Augusta.
For our MVP, we’re building a JSON-based list of businesses hosting First Friday events, visualized with LeafletJS. We’re aiming to have a demo ready by next meetup!
⚡️ Lightning Talks
Keisha Quick: Cyber Security Tips for Small Business Owners
Mike: The History of ATAK (Android Tactical Assault Kit)
💬 Main Talks
Josh Rykowski: Turning Your Everyday Work Into Talks That Inspire
Cory Singleton: Cyber Nerdiness
Fantastic talks all around — thanks to everyone who shared their expertise and enthusiasm!
🍰 Thank You to Our Sponsors
A big thank-you to our amazing partners:
The Boll Weevil for providing the delicious food!
ATDC (Advanced Technology Development Center) for their continued sponsorship and support.
And of course, a special shoutout to SoftGround, the local software company that organizes and powers Tech Talk Augusta.
📣 What’s Next
Last month’s focus was prepping for our move from Savannah River Brewing — and now that we’re settled, it’s time to refine and grow!
Here’s what we’re focusing on this month:
🖥️ Updating the website (especially the About Us page!)
🙌 Recruiting more volunteers — we need help with:
Taking live notes during meetups
Setup and teardown
Event coordination
If you’d like to get involved, please reach out on our Discord or talk to one of the organizers at the next event!
